Partial Recovery: The Vacflow System

Burwell Vacflow cyclone separator and vacuum suction unit for abrasive reclamation

Burwell utilise a high-efficiency vacuum system for the abrasive reclamation & recycling of the blast room. The vacuum system is pneumatically operated, made with heavy construction and high performance, with automated reverse pulse filter cleaning, and is capable of long length vacuum distances of both wet and dry abrasives.

The system contains two separate components:

Cyclone Separator

The high velocity air wash and cyclone serve as the grit cleaner. The system is driven by the vacuum suction unit. The cyclonic separation allows the dust to be separated into the suction unit and abrasive drop back into the blast pot. The cyclone separator has a mesh at the base to prevent any oversize debris entering the blast pot.

Suction Unit

The suction unit venturi system provides the necessary vacuum to transfer spent abrasive from the blast room to the cyclone separator. This unit is on height-adjustable legs to position over bulka bags for dust removal. This unit has forklift tyne slots for forklift movement.

Tooling & Vacuum Hose

The vacuum system will be supplied with abrasive-resistant/anti-static vacuum hose, stainless-steel floor tool for use when abrasive is spread over the floor and stainless-steel aspirator for use when abrasive is piled.

Partial Recovery: The Maxflow Recovery

Burwell Maxflow recovery system with full-width floor trough, air wash separator and storage hopper

The Maxflow recovery system is Burwell’s most efficient and highly regarded recovery system. Suitable for high production facilities where reliability is a must. The Maxflow system is designed with a trough to stretch along the entire width of your room, ranging from 2m wide to 10m wide. The feed hopper ensures regulated abrasive flow into the pneumatic recovery system. The pneumatic recovery system, in the form of an air conveyor, initiates an air flow which provides the start point of the cleaning process. The air conveyor recovers the spent abrasive and foreign particles to the high-velocity air wash and screen separation device.

Cleaning of abrasive is carried out by a three (3) stage system, consisting of deflection rubber-lined plates, mesh vibratory screening process and an air wash process.

The air wash system is designed to remove the dust and fines from the spent abrasive.

Both change of direction points in the pneumatic recovery system are lined with wear plates. The specially designed plates greatly reduce the wear problems normally associated with standard pneumatic conveyor systems. The recovery and recycling system is powered by a heavy-duty centrifugal fan.

The abrasive cleaning system is connected to the heavy-duty materials handling fan by a flexible joint. All the recycling equipment is mounted on top of the storage hopper. The abrasive separator is capable of cleaning all abrasive types.

Full Recovery: Automatic Sweeper Blades with Maxflow Recovery

Burwell automatic sweeper blade recovery floor with 5mm steel pan assemblies
Burwell sweeper blade recovery floor with operator grating over the recessed abrasive trough

The Burwell Automated Full Floor Sweeper Blade Recovery System is an advanced recovery solution combining mechanical collection with the Burwell Maxflow system for efficient abrasive recycling.

The system incorporates a pneumatic cross-floor conveyor and elevator assembly, eliminating the daily maintenance typically required in harsh blasting environments. Sweeper blade rack assemblies are operated via wire rope, 25mm pitch chain, connectors, and guides, and are powered by a reduction gear drive motor. Back scraper blades on the racks ensure minimal abrasive buildup at the ends of the floor.

Safety is built in: a control panel interlock system automatically shuts down the recovery floor and blasting operations if an obstruction or slippage occurs, while indicator lights notify operators of any stoppage. This ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation while maintaining consistent abrasive recovery.

Key Benefits

  • Efficient combination of mechanical and pneumatic abrasive recovery
  • Minimal daily maintenance required
  • Durable 5mm steel pan floor assemblies with back scraper blades
  • Safe operation with interlock system and indicator alerts
  • Optimised for high-capacity industrial blast rooms
  • Minimal foundation works required.
